Reasons why you might be ineligible to advertise on Twitter

There are many reasons that your account is ineligible to create a Twitter ads account and start running ads. Check the list below to see if you violate any of these before reaching out to Twitter (as it may be a while before you get a response):

  1. First and foremost: Is your account at least two weeks old? If not, sorry bye bye. You can’t set up your ads account until you have reached this mark.
  2. Second to the above: Is your account active? If not, you might want to start posting relevant content geared towards a relevant audience. If not, you will have difficulty proving to Twitter that you are concerned with quality. They like quality.
  3. Protected Tweets: People on Twitter can protect their Tweets in order to control who can view them. This setting is not currently supported within Twitter Ads. If your Tweets are protected and you are interested in advertising, you will first need to make your Tweets public from your settings page.
  4. Deactivated accounts: Accounts cannot participate in Twitter Ads if they have been deactivated by their owner.
  5. Suspended accounts: Accounts cannot participate in Twitter Ads if they are in a suspended state at the time they apply.
  6. Spam: Do not spam users. The specific behaviors that are considered as spam are described in the Twitter Rules.
  7. Prohibited categories (do not post about the following if you wish to be selected to advertise with Twitter)
    1. Adult or sexual products and services
    2. Drugs and drug paraphernalia
    3. Endangered species products
    4. Hate content, sensitive topics, and violence
    5. Illegal products and services
    6. Spyware and illegal hacking
    7. Tobacco and tobacco accessories
    8. Unauthorized ticket sales
    9. Weapons and weapon accessories
  8. Restricted content (These are not banned, but be very wary)
    1. Alcohol content
    2. Financial services
    3. Gambling content
    4. Health and pharmaceutical products and services
    5. Political campaigning
